Abstract
Introduction: According to Iranian architecture, the elements, spaces and structures of vernacular architecture are built and developed by the understanding of ancient architects among traditional buildings. Accordingly, the entrance of each building can be part of the governing components of vernacular architectural elements, spaces and structures. As the entrance of a building connects the interior and exterior space, it has different species and spatial connections in Iranian architecture. All such entrance patterns are inspired by the culture and traditions of the indigenous people of the region. The builders, architects, and users of the building in the past designed, executed, and expanded them according to the needs of the local people based on the entrance space with its components.
Materials and methods: This issue is qualitatively studied by recognizing architectural elements (openings, elements, female and male door knockers, and entrance), architectural spaces (front hall, entrance hall and eunuch or old residence), and local architectural structures (The color of the walls, proportions and spatial connections of the entrance in the native buildings) among all traditional buildings. To prove the stability and check whether the entrance of the building is functional or not, the light and wind speed are measured quantitatively among vernacular buildings (by selecting a model with the most use for quantitative analysis) in Shahid Beheshti Street in Bandar Lengeh after the qualitative analysis.
Results and discussion: this street includes 168 over 70 year old traditional buildings (buildings that have entrances with elements, spaces and structures compatible with vernacular architecture) all of which have a special example of entrance space compared to other buildings. In this study, using the most accurate measuring devices to evaluate data such as metering and accelerometer the wind flow absorption of the building was examined in July (the hottest month of the year) Bandar Lengeh area to determine whether the entrance space with the elements, spaces and structure used in it is effective as a comprehensive and complete model of architecture (according to the culture and identity of the area) or if it is applicable. This question, like other elements can be assessed and examined in spaces and structures compatible with vernacular architecture.
Conclusion: The results based on the study of variables on the entrance space of the building show the environment that has been able to use sustainable factors and by recognizing elements, spaces, and structures in the vernacular architecture in which special attention is paid to the functional factors such as comfort and protection of privacy in the hot and humid climate zone of Bandar Lengeh. According to the studies conducted in the field of recognizing the elements, it was determined that the openings are a factor for natural ventilation and receiving light to the hallway and beautification of the building. Male and female door knockers are a factor in determining the gender of the visitor. Forecourts are a factor in creating an entrance counter space. Entrance corridors are a factor in separating private and public space. Alas are sometimes effective as a living factor for people to rest. In the architectural structure, it was found that the color of the walls as a factor in the compatibility of pigments with the soil of the region and in the proportions and spatial connections of the entrance in vernacular buildings. It can be said that the entrance space connecting the alley with stairs and corridors, vestibule, and the central courtyard has created favorable conditions for building users, the result of which (recognizing the elements, spaces and structure of the entrance architecture) can help strengthen the vernacular architecture as a sustainable factor. The architects and building users can respect the identity and culture by maintaining and promoting this traditional species in vernacular architecture. It is hoped to help promoting and preserving such spaces by introducing such spaces to the architects and users of future generations.
